‘Tirthan Valley‘ is a raw and beautiful solitude hill station and a magnificent region in Himachal Pradesh near Kullu. Tirthan derived its name from Tirthan River which flows with serenity and exquisite through the hills. It is almost untouched beauty and an offbeat destination for the raw nature lovers. Delhi NCR crowd rush toward Manali, Kullu and other popular destinations of Himachal therefore Tirthan Valley remains utmost fresh and surreal for not being traversed so frequently. The entire valley remains in the grasp of ‘Devdar‘ and ‘Oakpine‘ jungles, clouds, fogs and drizzle. The water droplets after drizzle looks like minute pearls on the plants and grasses which glitters beautifully with sun rays. It seems that God has created this valley in his leisure time and filled the atmosphere with his magical cosmos which looks nevertheless a fantasy world or a fairyland. It is a place where anyone will love to explore because beauty increases with every kilometer you traversing deep.
Regular destinations or crowded locations are always on the list but this time we planned for an offbeat travelling, then accidentally came to know about Tirthan Valley on Google and finalized the plan. Visiting the hilly vistas in solitude and relaxing totally in the lap of Devdar trees with fogs flowing everywhere, drizzling sounds of rain on the leaves, thunder clouds, bird chirps, flowing rivers and colorful blossomed flowers make the cosmos beauteously spellbinding. This thrilling imagination got naturally executed in reality moment we stepped in the valley. We spent three days there, every bit and moment was like a gliding experience in the paradise. On many occasions, mixture of clouds and fogs flow beneath the valley which gives the feeling of being ‘On Top Of The World‘. Every turn has been detailed with huge natural scenic landscapes which automatically pop the eyes of the travelers. Travelers preferring isolated locations should try this abode of exotic nature.
Route: Delhi–> Chandigarh–> Bilaspur–> Mandi–> Jawahar Tunnel–> Tirthan Valley–>Shringi Vatika (535 kms)
Hotels Info: Raju’s Cottage, Riverside Resort, Himalayan Trout are good hotels near initial region of the valley. Shringi Vatika Home Stay can be considered in case of deep nature exploration. It lies 10 kms before ‘Jalodi Pass‘ in ‘Ghiyaghi‘.
Here is my pictorial journey of Tirthan…..
Vishal (me), Partha, Rishi, Rishab and Kunal started the Afternoon journey from Delhi, target was to reach Tirthan next day early morning.
We drove full day and reached Bilaspur around 10′ O Clock night, rested there in the Dhaba, had tea, snacks, dinner etc.
Moment it was dawn, we throttled our bikes again. We got accompanied by other group, they were also heading for Tirthan.
A beautiful scene on the way.
It rained all night therefore clouds and fogs were flowing all the way.
A foggy landscape.
A small halt before Mandi.
At every halt we planned not to stop before Tirthan but the beauty forced us to halt again and again.
Reached Mandi city, halted there for half an hour for tea break and started the journey again.
Beautiful weather near Jawahar Tunnel.
A magnificent waterfall, it lies 4 kms before Jawahar tunnel. Please check the waterfall video below.
Do not enter the Jawahar Tunnel for Aut, else you will head towards Kullu-Manali. (If one is curious to ride in the tunnel can enjoy the 2.5 kms of long tunnel journey and come back) Just on the right side of the tunnel you will see a narrow road going in the unknown hills, follow that and do not get faint by the beauty of initial Tirthan hills. You will find Tirthan river flowing in the valley on the right side of the road.
While driving, you will realize that it is a crowd-less region, no traffic and rare signs of humans. Further few kilometers you will find a bridge, take the right turn from there which will take you in the Tirthan Valley. Once you are in Tirthan then you will get to see the villages, home stay boards at every few kilometers. As we had booked Shringi Vatika Home Stay which was in Ghiyaghi therefore we kept driving towards ‘Banjar‘, Shringi Vatika is 10 kms from Banjar.
The more we were getting close to our destination, beauty was increasing rapidly on every turn. Devdar trees surrounded by fog and riding through those were my utmost thrilling experience.
The magnificent view of Tirthan river.

Green Valley of Devdar trees.
The most beautiful ride, yes that is me going through the fogs.
Finally reached Shringi Vatika around 10′ O clock morning, Manohar Uncle and Pammy Aunty (Owners) welcomed us by giving delicious ‘Litchi‘ juices which refreshed us in moments. Please check the video of Shringi.
After having juices we rushed for our rooms, we were amazed by seeing that it was all wooden.
The beautiful wooden rooms had all facilities, in-fact we loved it more than a regular deluxe hotel. The third and fourth picture depicting room window and veranda respectively, from there guests can see the backyard of the cottage surrounded by dense Devdar jungles. Backyard view was like sightseeing of nature, it gives the first feeling that ‘Wow.. we are here in this paradise for three days, Yipee’!! We comforted ourselves in the rooms, refreshed and started exploring the backyard.
Some beautiful captures of the backyard park.
Excess green park.
Beautiful hilly trees.
Lush green Devdar leaves.
Crystal clear drizzle droplets on the plants, depicting pearls in sunlight.
Clock passed 12 Noon, we did not realized the time because of endless beauty of sight scenes. It was lunch time by now and we were thinking to have something, the very moment, Pammy aunty called us for the lunch. She served us Chicken Curry with rice, it was super delicious and we left nothing on the plate 🙂 Tummy was full and after that we retired in the bed to give rest to our body which already carried the long journey fatigue. Weather was cool, Tirthan was flowing beneath Shringi Vatika and the stream sound was soothing to ears. We slept couple of hours, felt like sleeping in heaven. The stream sound was not disturbing at all, in-fact it acted as a catalyst in falling asleep.
Around 4′ O Clock in the evening we woke and stepped outside for exploring the backyard again. Further going down the valley we found a snail, it was really looking weird.
Further down we found a staircase going towards a small canal and a waterfall. Logs were put over the canal for the guest to sit and enjoy the flowing Tirthan stream. Waterfall was bifurcated with a log to scatter the water to add attraction. It was a place to sit and meditate.
We walked few steps down through the backyard farms.
In front the farm we got a hut, by seeing it we had feeling of haunted house as well as a beauty, it carries dual perception.
Logs for bonfire.
Few more steps down showed us few more scenic landscapes of flowing Tirthan.
We were exploring these in our leisure time but seems time flied once again, dusk was on its way. In the meantime we heard Pammy aunty’s voice… ‘Beta ajao snacks kha lo‘ (Son.. come and have snacks). She served us ‘Chicken Pakoda‘ and Chay (tea).
Still few minutes of daylight was there, we utilized it exploring near surroundings. Entire region was full of lush green landscapes. Please check the video of the valley.
We came back to Shringi and sat in the veranda looking the backyard jungles.
Manohar uncle gave us the hilly grapes which tastes like guava, it was very different experience.
We kept gazing the colorful Devdar jungles from the Veranda.
Now it was dusk time, we sat there for next few hours enjoying cool weather, bird chirps and sounds of flowing river.
Dining hall and kitchen, it looks amazing that uncle aunty works in kitchen in front of the guest. It seems like a home away from home, we kept talking to them and they also enjoyed. We shared our beautiful experiences.
Delicious Trout fish fry and rice for dinner. Slurp !!
We asked for some sweet items but aunty said we do not serve dessert, instead she offered Murabba (preservative). In quick seconds she brought apple and carrot preservatives. It was my life’s most delicious preservative I ever had.
After dinner we had a group photo with uncle and aunty, overall it was a wonderful day with many sweet memories. Next day we had plans for exploring Tirthan river and fishing. We retired in the bed, stream sound was soothing to ears, don’t know when we fall asleep.
I urge every nature lover to experience Shringi Vatika Home Stay and its surroundings, it is priceless.
